Stephen Goose, U.S. Disarmament Campaigner
"They stand alone as the only government that is trying to seek a technological solution to the problem rather than banning the weapon."
Stephen Goose directs the Arms Division of Human Rights Watch (HRW), one of the founding members of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL), which received the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize. Steve and HRW were instrumental in bringing about the 1997 international treaty banning antipersonnel mines and a 1995 protocol banning blinding lasers. Prior to joining HRW, Steve was a staff member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Foreign Operations and a researcher at the Center for Defense Information. He has a master's degree in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and a BA in History from Vanderbilt University.
